Last hurrah of summer

A couple of  weekends ago we decided to send summer off with one last hurrah. With school starting, it was time to say goodbye to Summer. The best way I figured to send Summer off was to go visit a new Arkansas State Park. I will say we were not disappointed with our choice.

Hubby and I have been wanting to take Glitter Bug to Cossatot River State Park- Natural Area. We thought this would be a great park to visit because it is not far from us. Plus Glitter Bug LOVES rocks of all kinds and this park is full of them.

These two wouldn’t keep still long enough for a decent picture. G.B. wanted to study the sign instead of taking a picture.
Our next stop was to the visitor center to check out what the park had to offer.

This park is managed by both Arkansas State Parks and Arkansas Natural Heritage Commission. Cossatot became a park in February of 1988. There are hiking trails and lots of rapids for people to enjoy. Most of the rapids are for experienced rafters. However, you can still climb rocks to see the river up close or even swim in certain places. Also offered are picnic tables by the swimming area.

This is where we found some people swimming. Doesn’t ¬†the water look pretty? Plus look at those rocks! If you have a rock hound like me, then this is a must go place.

Daddy and Glitter Bug spent most of their time doing this and I spent most of our time enjoying all the memories being made.

This park is on our go back list. I can’t wait to see it in the fall. What Arkansas State Park have you been to lately?

Pinnacle State Park

Pinnacle State Park was just one of the last few parks we visited. This was on our way back home from camping. By this time, we were all a little cranky and tired. After two days of camping with a six year old (with rain on the last evening which meant being stuck in the tent.) you might have an idea how things were at this point.

At the point she said “I am done with pictures. Just want to go home.”
Even though Glitter Bug was tired and ready to go home, she was excited to be here at this park. She loved the overlook.

I have to agree this is an epic view!!

There was also this great quarry pond. The water is very green.

The sign does say “No swimming”

There are also a couple of picnic tables beside this pond. I think there will be family picnics here soon. Of course there are some pretty wicked trails here. Glitter Bug wanted to go on the one which goes up the mountain. (There is no way I could make it up there unless we could camp and do it in steps.) Working on getting into shape so we can take her up.

There are some easier trails which we will be doing next time we go up. They also have horse back riding and this awesome open park area where you could have a group luncheon, bring your dog, meet some new people, or just hang out. Hubby and I think we might have found our new favorite park.
There is a hands on exhibit about footprints.

You can go here to check out Arkansas State Parks to plan your own trip.

Until we next meet,

We ran away.

Today starts Spring Break for Glitter Bug. Hubby and I decided to take off work and run away for the weekend.

She has been begging to go back to (what I think is her favorite park) Petit Jean State Park.  We thought it would be fun to surprise her. At first we told her we were just going to go to three state parks. (We are working on going to all 52.) She was slightly excited because there is always fun to be had at the parks. Plus there are the silly poses by the park signs. When we get back to the land of Internet I will post them.

Off to bed, daylight comes early and Glitter Bug thinks that is when we get up.

Until we next meet,

Exciting News!!

If you read my blog you would know we had a wonderful mini vacation. Hubby and I were talking earlier this week and he then he popped out something which surprised me. He said we should visit all 52 State Parks. At first I was thinking there is no way. It would like forever to do this. The more I thought about it, the more it seemed like a good idea. This would be great way to introduce Glitter Bug to what our state has to offer. This is not something we are going to do all at once. So I hope ya’ll are ready.

Hubby also said we should get something from each park. We let him pick what we get and he picked:

PATCHES!!!

Make sure you come back to see what Historic Washington is like this week.
